Dungeon World: The Golem

Yet another class that was made due to voter demand, we present to you The Golem.

UPDATE: We've updated our All of the Playbooks and Monster Mash bundles to include The Golem. If you purchased our All of the Playbooks bundle before, check your email for a discount link (as long as your DriveThruRPG account is set to contactable).

You can blame John Kramer for this: he was working on a golem class, I was providing some design insight, but when we wrapped up The Swashbuckler he asked Melissa and I to include the golem as one of the options for our next class poll.

Frankly given all the other options on the poll I’m surprised that the golem won (it just barely beat out the rakshasa, which was the class I really wanted to do, so that’s what we’re going to do next). I mean, outside of maybe some bizarre 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons char-op build involving half-golem templates, I’ve just never heard of anyone wanting to play of all things a golem.

Initially Melissa and I were stumped as to what to do with it. We did a bunch of research on the mythological golem, but it didn't exactly have a plethora of interesting/diverse abilities or traits, and some of them didn’t really fit a unified concept (like the ability to turn invisible or speak with the dead).

Eventually I struck on the idea of having the golem be somewhat child-like: having little to no knowledge or worldy experience, it would question things more, and would also be prone to emotional fits when it didn’t get what it wanted.

Ultimately, as we are wont to do, Melissa and I found a way to really make it work, bringing something with a solid concept and social role-playing potential to the table.

So, here it is: you're strong, tough, and work better with those you have a bond with. As you level up you can become stronger (and more destructive), tougher, gain additional benefits when you do as you're told, become more observant about the world around you, better protect your friends, and even kind of "possess" inanimate objects.

This product contains two separate pdf files. The first is a digest-sized, 22 page pdf that includes:

  • The Golem, a complete class with 20 advanced moves: smash things apart, endure most any punishment, and (usually) play well with others.
  • Three additional advanced moves if you want to evoke the abilities of the golem of Prague.
  • New armor and dungeon gear, and a new transport option.
  • Three magic items.
  • A director's cut that provides an explanation for some of the moves, and even some questions to ask yourself when rolling up a golem.

The other is a 2-page, letter-sized character sheet for you to print out and actually use at the table. It features a new layout that provides more room for gear and alternate moves than the "official" Dungeon World character sheets.

Note: If you purchase using the PayPal Buy Now button, we will also send you a complimentary copy through DriveThruRPG.

Announcements
Lichfield is available for public consumption. If you want a concise adventure with a Silent Hill feel, be sure to check it out!

The Dungeon World GM Screen is currently available in pdf and landscape insert formats. No matter which you choose, you get eight sets of pdfs that let you have access to the screen in both landscape and portrait orientation, in color or black and white, and with or without art.

We're waiting on the portrait inserts. Assuming they look good, they'll be available soon. Next up, mini screen!

In A Sundered World news, the promo adventure and comic are both nearly done. Just sent the adventure out to backers for closed feedback. Assuming they have no problems with it, I'll just need to finish the art and a bit of text. Melissa is toiling away coloring the comic, after which that will be done.
